1) U.S. equities close out the first trading session of 2018 with solid gains across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 104.79 points, the S&P 500 added 22.20 points while the Nasdaq 100 closed higher by 103.51 points and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 14.50 points.
2) Gold Futures carry strong December rally into the new year closing higher by over 10 points while crude oil futures start the year on a much quieter note closing lower by $0.05. TLT (20yr Treasury Bond ETF) dropped sharply today as did the U.S. dollar against a basket of six other currencies.
3) Just about all stocks performed well today but there were certain sectors and Industry groups that did better than others. One group of stocks that did extremely well today where the FAANG stocks and most of these have very intriguing chart formations. Let's take a look.
