Trading The News - Vince Vora's Market Update Jan. 7, 2018
1) Despite a weak employment report stocks surged on Friday making this the strongest start to a year since 2006. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 220.74 points, the S&P 500 gained 19.76 points while the Nasdaq 100 closed higher by 58.64 points and the Russell 2000 finished higher by 4.29 points.
2) The U.S. dollar finished the day Friday slightly higher against a basket of six other currencies while gold futures, crude oil futures and TLT (20yr+ Treasury Bond ETF) all closed slightly lower. TLT has been trading in a range since June of last year but isn't showing any signs of a Breakout just yet.
3) Each week there are several news stories as well as several economic reports released that can affect the equity markets. In today's video, we discussed the main economic reports to watch for this week.
