1) U.S. equities closed at record highs again last week after a few financials reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gains 228.46 points, the S&P 500 18.68 points while the Nasdaq 100 closed higher by 49.28 points and the Russell 2000 closed higher by 5.18 points. 2) A major area of focus for traders last week was the U.S. dollar. It dropped significantly against a basket of six other currencies, but more importantly, it closed below a major support level which could result in a much bigger drop. 3) This may be a short week due to the Martin Luther King holiday but there will be no shortage of news announcements. This week we will get the beige book, housing starts, jobless claims, money supply and consumer sentiment reports just to name a few.
